As reported by Chris, GNER have put wi-fi internet access on all their trains.
Good news. They need to sort out a few details though, as I found out coming back from Birmingham on GNER last week. The first pain was that there were no power sockets on the train, so my laptop ran out of juice after a few hours. A minor detail, my fault really.
So I was reading the news on my PDA which I'd downloaded in the morning, and it told me a wi-fi access point was available and asked for a password. Hurrah! The conductor came past...
me: how does the wireless internet access work on this train?
him: (dour yorkshire accent) eh?
me: You've got internet access on this train... can I pay for a password or something?
him: Have we? No-one bloody told me...
me: oh. is there anyone you can ask?
him: no.
me: ok.
I'm sure it will be sorted out soon. In the meantime I'll stick with Virgin so at least while we're waiting for an hour for the broken down train in front of us to be moved, my laptop doesn't run out of batteries before I can start watching the new episode of Nip/Tuck.
